David James puts the giggle into tax time

Jul 27 2010
The brief was essentially to personify the burden of taxes in a character. US Sydney came up with the people covered in tax receipts which put a great image in our mind. It was up to David James to make it work, make it funny, and to put it into the context of the script.

Even at the pencil stage David had us laughing as we saw the concept come to life. As David moved to colour; adding his own style and accentuating the humour, we started to see the final ad in our imagination. Then when we saw the final ad on TV we laughed again. Our hat goes off to US Sydney staying with the original vision as the final ad looks fantastic and really makes arguably the most dry subject matter funny.

This is the creative process we love. From start to finish the job is loaded with anticipation. There is an impatience from all parties to see the vision come to life. In these cases we are extremely proud to help get a great idea up. Scroll below to see David’s storyboards side by side with the stills from the final ad and you’ll get a feel for why we feel such pride in David’s work.
