Philip Holliday, wetworking for Wynns Coonawarra

Jul 23 2010
Wine saturates the senses. Taste, touch and smell are all applied at various stages through the creation and appreciation of it. Hence DDB Melbourne commissioned an overtly hand drawn image from Philip Holliday to reinforce the humanity of wine.

One thing that is consistent during any commission we work on with Philip Holliday is the impact his pencils have on us when they come in. He has an incredibly deft hand when it comes to laying down the linework. Every drawn line is considered and benefits from his long career drawing anything that was put in front of him. We have never known Phil to back down from a challenge. This large inked scene of Wynns Coonawarra is no exception as you’ll note from the detail of his pencils below.

After pencils most commissions today end up life as highly finished glossy renders in digital colour. So not often does Phil get to settle into his traditional technique to produce something that conveys classical craft and heritage rather than contemporary fashion and trends. Scroll below and enjoy it.
