Leon’s back

Apr 15 2010
Leon the chameleon has been Nestea’s brand mascot for the past 18 months. This month Christer Eriksson’s version of him teetering on top of peach segments is posted on billboards all over town.

Anthropomorphic animals are arguably the most satisfying subject to a photorealist as it is a brief that needs there skills because the client wants a character and a story that bends the truth. As opposed to a brief that requires a photorealist because there’s not enough time or budget to use photography.

We’re proud to say that Ogilvy Sydney understood that the challenge to draw a character with no lips who is over enthusiastically sucking on a straw was best handled by a photorealistic illustrator. Creating the character this way meant that the whole body and pose of leon could be created from scratch to convey the enthusiasm rather than just retouching the lizard’s lips. This is what makes an image striking.
