Joe turns blood, sweat & tears into something beautiful

Aug 7 2009
Desktop magazine’s Awards is always about as much fun as any creative person can take and this year it’s going to blow our threshold with Dash & Will entertaining the punters. To shout it out in the beautiful but weird tones that the ladies deserve Desktop brought in the beautiful flowing linework of Drawing Book’s Joe Whyte.

It’s not just Joe’s flowing linework that made him an obvious choice (albeit the case that it has lead to some incredibly beautiful drawings of women), it’s also his background in poster design for rock bands including Pearl Jam, Queens of the Stone Age and locally the John Butler Trio which qualified him to give these illustrations just the perfect dose of irreverance that we hope the girls appreciated when it came to visually portraying their personality.

We’d also like to pay huge respect to the palpable pallettes created by Photographer Renee Hodkiss and the incredible work of digital seamstress Janina Redwill who did such an amazing retouching job on the images.

Just sit back and scroll through the images below or better yet, fill up a teapot with gin, cut yourself a slice of cupcake and flick through the pages of Desktop’s September issue.
