Congratulations to 3 new members of The Drawing Book Studios

May 4 2011
The third issue since Desktop Magazine’s relaunch features a host of great illustrators, typographers, publishers, artists and designers talking about their work in a straight forward, open and honest way that few editorials are able to do as well. Favourite articles for us were Visual Editions incredibly brave foray into publishing with a “mischievous desire to do things differently”, The review of David Walsh’s newly opened MONA gallery in Tasmania, the lifetime and career of Australian Designer, Garry Emery,

The three Drawing Book Studios illustrators that have work featured alongside descriptions, back stories and quotes from the illustrator’s themselves are so different between but so consistent in quality that it gives an insight into how we select the illustrators we represent. It is a great example of individuals expressing themselves in the most striking manner by using an authentic visual voice.

We’ll leave it to you to find the magazine at your local news agent so that you can enjoy all the other content but we have included snapshots of the pages that feature the artists’ work alongside snippets of copy that demonstrate what makes each individual so unique.

Click the artists image to see their full portfolios.

Jessica Singh
“Creepy and cute, textures, patterns, sparing colour and sensual aethetics”.

Andrew Millist
“…there’s a fun challenge in making loud colours speak harmoniously in an image.”

Borja Bonafuente Gonzalo
“One day I turned to oils to paint people near me in the style of an 18th century portrait, but in a contemporary way (jeans, t-shirt and so on)…”
