The brief can be boiled down to two elements, content and delivery. The content was to depict the origins of cooking in a situation that demonstrated the passion that goes into the art of cooking from the very beginning. Hence we chose to depict the gathering of olives before they were pressed into the omnipresent ingredient that is olive oil.
To nail the perfect delivery Robin was set the challenge of creating a painting that used depth, angle and character so that the people who sat in front of the painting would not only appreciate the scene but be enveloped by it. We are extremely proud of Robin’s use of light rays, a low camera angle beneath a canopy of leaves and a cast of diverse workers in order to answer the brief.
Whilst scrolling through the final images below will give you a hint of Robin’s achievement we hope that you’ll one day visit Front restaurant, stand before this work of art and appreciate it the way it was intended.
Front restaurant opens March the 5th 2010 and is located at 242 Lygon Street, Carlton.
