Love, passion and robots?!

Mar 23 2011
What we already know of Andrew Millist is his incredible ability to draw the human form in its full range of movement at the relatively young age of 25. Which is most obvious when you look through his storyboard portfolio which demonstrates that no matter what type of body it is and no matter what type of position it is in, he can draw it.

That Andrew can do it at such a young age is most likely due to the fact that his personal life until now has been full of the study of body movement. He was an underage Bodybuilder, a soldier and is still a fitness trainer. Whether he was drawing the body or taking it through its paces he was always studying it.

If we go further back in time Andrew was raised in a forrest full of machinery. His father was a pilot and worked as a crop duster. If you flick through Andrew’s sketch book you can see this childhood curiosity spilled out over pages like the one attached below.

The pencils, process and final art below demonstrate these personal traits in his very personal interpretation of the colour red. He interprets it as various elements that he relates to love and passion. The soft but very structured petal arrangement of the rose works as a segue between the armoured plates of the robot and the live organism dancing at the top. A very personal use of a well known symbol of love.
